Public Works Update - Construction begins Sept 16, 2020

Dear Neighbors - Chris Bolduc, Cumberland Asst Town Manager, sent an email announcement today to attendees of the public forums last year about the official status of the Public Works project.  Please see below.

Sept 16, 2020

As most of you already know, construction work for the new public works garage started this morning at 7am.  I apologize for the timing of this email as construction was going to start Thursday but got pushed ahead with a DEP approval late yesterday afternoon.  I am sending you this email with a construction plan and projected timing of the project.

  • All the busses will be moving off site to the Fairgrounds this week .  We are doing this so the contractor will have more flexibility to move around the site and complete the site work faster.  The busses will be moved back when the majority of the work is complete, we are projecting mid November.
  • The cold storage building is being torn down today and should be complete by tomorrow morning.
  • We are moving the white building, used by the bus drivers, to the front of the bus garage along the fence line.  This is a temporary location and will be removed when the administrative building is complete.
  • Due to budgetary constraints we have had to make this a two phase project.  The garage and all the site work will be in phase one and construction of the administrative building will be phase two.  Timing on phase two is TBD, and will be discussed through the Towns Budget process.
  • We are shooting for a May 31, 2021 completion date on phase one of the project.
  • The new sand salt building will be constructed during the first two weeks of October 2020 and the old salt building will be removed shortly after that.

Thank you for all your time, effort and input in the planning of this project.

Regards

Chris Bolduc

Assistant Town Manager, Town of Cumberland
